The Bar Kokhba Archives: Postkahanism Podcast, Episode 10

an interview with Doctor Itzhak Eshel

Dr. Eshel has spent the last several decades going through the archives of Shimon Bar Kokhba, the Prince of Israel, who built an underground army, defeated the Romans in a daring special operation and established a sovereign Jewish state for four years, only to be murdered by a traitor. During this time, he had a secret support base in the state of Nechoshet in Southern Judea. His correspondence with the men of this support base was preserved and recently uncovered, and Dr. Eshel has made it his life’s work to restore and record this correspondence; the perspective it reveals on the Bar Kokhba revolt is groundbreaking, not found in any other historical record.

Bonus: the fate of the Ark of the Covenant and the Temple Menorah!

PS Doctor Eshel’s extensive interviews with Uri Milstein on the archive and the revolt can be found here. They are all in Hebrew, but well worth listening to/translating.
