Congratulations and best wishes Baruch to you and your family on the birth of your daughter - wishing you all safety , health and happiness. Also thanks for some really good interviews especially with Professor Aumann, Richard Spence, Tim Lynch, Edward Luttwak - there’s a lot in there. Also from far away I find it interesting to hear stories about how things work for normal people in your country - like being handed a baby by a stranger or hitchhiking in the countryside. When I was a kid everyone tried hitching- you never see it here any more. Maybe we were naive or a more innocent time.
The culture where Baruch and I live, specifically our area not necessarily in all of Israel runs on hitchhiking. Gas and cars are so expensive that we help each other out. Rarely a day goes by when I don't take hitchhikers in my car.
Thanks for that - I’d be interested to hear more about settler life and how you manage basic needs like energy, food and water, security, education, income etc, and such things like how a settlement starts, and how you deal with the government and your neighbours, and how you think about your future. The only time I see mention of settlements here (Australia) it’s inherently negative, even evil, and they’re used as a kind of stick to beat Israel with. I imagine, but probably am totally wrong, something more like the wild west where you need to be much more self reliant and live deliberately - or maybe you just commute into town. Mainstream media is so clueless here - even if you hear a Jewish voice it’s often anti Israel.
Mazel tov!
